DAVID, Gerard
Netherlandish Northern Renaissance Painter, ca.1460-1523
Netherlandish painter. He is known as the last of the 'Flemish Primitives'. Although born in the northern Netherlands, he moved to Bruges as a young man, and most of his work expresses the impassive, unmannered, microscopically realistic approach peculiar to south Netherlandish art in the time of Jan van Eyck. David was skilled at synthesizing the art of several important south Netherlandish predecessors, adapting, for instance, the compositions of van Eyck and the technique of Hugo van der Goes. He was also influenced by Hans Memling, Related Paintings of DAVID, Gerard :. | Pilate's Dispute with the High Priest fdg | The Nativity dfgs | The Annunciation dg02 | The Marriage at Cana fg | Altarpiece of St Michael dfg | Related Artists: WILLEBEECK, PetrusFlemish painter, Antwerp school (active 1632-1646 in Antwerp) solomon ecclesalso known as Solomon Eagle (1618 - 1683) was an English composer.
Little if any of his works are extant since, when he became a Quaker, he burned all his books and compositions so as to distance himself from church music. His repugnance for the organised church showed in his name for them: "steeple-houses".
